Artistic Biography
I have worked in various mediums for 30 plus years, including ceramic, tole painting, basketry, quilting, stained glass, cards (handmade, based on my art quilts and mixed media), knitting, watercolour and acrylic painting, weaving, and tapestry weaving. Each medium incorporates the same Elements of Design (line, shape, colour, texture, size, and value) and Principles of Design (unity, contrast, rhythm/repetition, gradation, balance/symmetry).
Quilts have been in my family for generations with many treasured antiques created by my maternal great-grandmother so it was natural for me to learn to quilt over twenty-five years ago. After exploring traditional quilt patterns for many years, I learned how to dye fabrics in a twelve step colour wheel which offered a glimpse into the world of art quilts. I began creating my own designs based on my photographs and paintings for art quilts, table runners, and lap quilts. Due to my creative energies, I never run out of ideas and can express them through different mediums!
